27-28 calendar survey

The Hardin County Schools Calendar Committee is asking for input regarding the formation of the 2027-28 school calendar.

A survey is available by CLICKING HERE starting on Thursday, October 22, 2026, through 11:59 pm on Saturday, October 31, 2026.  There are two calendar options from which survey participants can choose.

The committee would like survey participants to know the following as they take the survey:

  • The district is required to place 174 instructional days into the calendar with three Professional Learning Days for staff

  • The committee would like to have an equal number of days each semester

  • The district builds in a certain number of predetermined make-up days

  • Each decision made on one day in the calendar will affect other days in the calendar

  • Certain days are mandated within the calendar by state and federal guidelines.

  • The key difference between the two options centers on potential days off in March 2028 and whether one of those days can be used as a make-up day. Consequently, an extra day off in March will shift the last day of school for K-12 students.

The final decision on the calendar will be made by the Hardin County Board of Education.  That decision is traditionally made by the Board in December of each year.  The calendar committee will consider survey participants' input as it decides which calendar to recommend to the Board.

The Calendar Committee is comprised of two parents, two classified staff members, two certified staff members, a principal, a member of the Board of Education, two community members/business owners and the Director of Pupil Personnel.
